Research Projects
Effect of heavy metal pollutants, Cd & Pd, On chlorophyll metabolism. (1990-93) From MPCST.
Area of Work
Research work covers the studies on regulatory aspects of enzymes of nitrogen assimilation, such as, nitrate reductase, glutamate dehydrogenase and glutamate synthase, involving the nutritional and environmental factors. Work done also includes analyzing the mode of action of trace element pollutants, Hg, Cd, Pb, As, Se and Al, on these enzymes and possible mechanisms of effects were elucidated. Effects of trace element pollutants on chlorophyll metabolism and on regulatory aspects of key enzyme of the path, d - amino levulinic acid dehydratase were analysed. Studies on ALA synthesizing system, Mg chelatase and Protochlorophyllide reductase and Phytochelatins in response to heavy metal toxicants are also in progress.
